Beating Horrible Halitosis

Lone Tree dentistry

“My neighbor’s bad breath is scaring me.”

Do you live in Lone Tree, Colorado or nearby? Bad breath isn’t just a problem for careful brushers in Denver, Littleton or Highlands Ranch. Your neighbors in Greenwood Village can spend all day brushing their teeth and still come out with bad breath.

But why?

I’m Dr. Almeida with Almeida & Bell Aesthetic Dental Center. In business since 1977. My specialty is cosmetic dentistry. At Almeida & Bell Aesthetic Dental Center we perform general dentistry and dental implants regularly. As a favor to Lone Tree, Colorado I’d like to take a few minutes to share with you some insight about bad breath and give your neighbors some places to start in improving or removing the offending odor.

Brushing just the teeth may not remove food particles between the teeth and up in the gums. Bacteria can grow and stink from hidden floss-only locations. Gently brushing the gums, sides of the mouth and the tongue in addition to the teeth may make the difference.

Also, the food your neighbors are eating can affect the air they’re releasing. Onions, garlic and coffee are likely to show up on the breath no matter how much time is logged brushing.

Illness, infection, and allergies can all cause salivation issues which in turn upset the control of bacteria in the mouth. Diabetes, kidney failure, radiation therapy, liver malfunction, dry mouth or even postnasal drip can cause an odor.

Finally, dentures or a removable appliance may also carry bacteria that needs to be cleaned and freshened up on a regular basis. Bacteria balance in the mouth is ever changing.

1. Brush and floss the teeth as well as brush the tongue, gums and sides of mouth.
2. Enjoy onions and garlic a little less.
3. Stay on top of health issues.
4. Keep dentures clean.

This last one is for you:

Again, I’m Dr. Almeida. Located at 8683 E Lincoln Ave, Ste 200 Lone Tree, Colorado. We offer teeth whitening, dental bridges, sedation dentistry, porcelain crowns, and porcelain veneers just to name a few of our fantastic dental services.

Almeida & Bell Aesthetic Dental Center Treatment For Sensitive Teeth

Littleton cosmetic dental and tooth implants

For those of you who feel pain when you sip your morning coffee or who cringe each time you brush or floss, Almeida & Bell Aesthetic Dental Center is here for you. Dr. Almeida has been treating this common issue since 1977.

The first line of defense against tooth sensitivity is proper oral hygiene. Incorrect brushing and over-brushing can cause receding gums, which leads to the exposure of microscopic tubules in the dentin. When these tubules are exposed, acidic, hot, cold, and sticky foods can then reach the nerve cells in the teeth causing discomfort (who are we kidding – it’s pain).

Here in our Lone Tree dentistry practice, Dr.Almeida can determine if your brushing style is contributing to your tooth sensitivity and get you on your way to proper oral care habits.

Dr. Almeida usually recommends an over-the-counter desensitizing toothpaste that diminishes tooth pain after several applications. However, some Lone Tree patients may need in-office procedures such as fluoride gel treatments available at Almeida & Bell Aesthetic Dental Center.

Don’t worry if you have sensitive teeth and want to have your teeth whitened. Here at Almeida & Bell Aesthetic Dental Center, Dr. Almeida can determine which professional tooth whitening or at-home whitening procedures will work for you.

Call our Lone Tree cosmetic dental office today at 720-306-8057 to get relief for your sensitive teeth.

Protect Those Nooks And Crannies

dental sealants Lone Tree

Drs. Dr. Almeida is committed to the prevention of dental caries, which is the foundation for a healthy and beautiful smile. Preventative dentistry – brushing, flossing, and regular dental cleanings with a dental hygienist – are indispensable for keeping your smile bright and free of cavities. There are some places, however, where enamel degeneration can occur even with dedicated oral hygiene.

The very back of the mouth, where the premolars and molars are, is the most difficult area to brush and floss. Deep pits in molars and spaces between teeth are the perfect environment for dental caries to flourish. Food and bacteria that is lodged in pits of molars and spaces between teeth create acid that has direct contact with tooth enamel and immediately goes to work.

While brushing frequently is important, an additional safeguard against dental caries is the application of dental sealants. Dental sealants are a plastic barrier that Drs. Almeida can apply. The sealants are placed over the top of each tooth, to prohibit bacteria and plaque having direct contact with the tooth.

Many Lone Tree parents obtain sealants for their children and teens, and many adults in the Denver area are having them applied to help fight dental caries and protect enamel. After sealants are applied, they will be examined at each visit and reapplied as required.

Are they cost effective? Sealants are relatively inexpensive initially and downright cheap when you consider the cost of filling cavities and restorative procedures that may be needed in the future. Sealants may be the best investment you ever make in your child’s smile.

To keep a healthy smile, follow these vital steps:

Brush with a soft-bristled toothbrush that is replaced every few months
Brush with ADA-accepted fluoride toothpaste after each meal
Eat a diet with plenty of fruit, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and low fat protein sources.
Limit or avoid sugary foods and drinks, especially soda and hard or chewy candy
Visit Drs. Almeida at least once a year and have your teeth cleaned and examined
Consider having sealants to help protect the enamel in the hard-to-clean places

People all over the Denver area trust Almeida & Bell Aesthetic Dental Center in Lone Tree for their family’s dental care. Drs. Almeida, DDS, specializes in sedation dentistry, porcelain veneers and teeth whitening.

Call today for an appointment at 720-306-8057 and trust the warm and comfortable team at Almeida & Bell Aesthetic Dental Center to help keep you smiling.

Hiccups In Your Dental Routine

Highlands Ranch cosmetic dental veneers

The most common times people stop to brush their teeth are morning and night – either before or after breakfast, after dinner, or at bedtime. Common concerns that come with this routine involve hiccups in the schedule, from family life, shift work or exhaustion.

Sometimes after dinner isn’t super cut and dried. Many Denver families face irregular weeknight routines. As the school year progresses, some have games to attend, band concerts, play practice, youth groups or other weeknight commitments. An irregular schedule commonly disrupts regular dental maintenance.

Many Littleton workers have daily commutes or shift work to battle with. Due to the changing landscape of Lone Tree’s job market and the greater variety in shift schedules we see patients who are adjusting to irregularities in sleep patterns. This leads to exhaustion and often sleep takes priority over consistent brushing – either morning or night.

The most important time to be sure to brush is after eating sugar or carb-intensive foods. These foods kickstart bacteria growth on the teeth without vigilant attention.

Highly acidic foods weaken the enamel, so it is best to swish with water immediately after consuming acidic foods to diminish the acid. Then brush about 30 minutes later when the mouth is less acidic. The fluoride in toothpaste helps remineralize the enamel.

Drs. Dr. Almeida’s hygiene staff at Almeida & Bell Aesthetic Dental Center has been assisting Colorado families since 1977 to prevent hiccups in their dental routines. See how we demonstrate professional and educated instruction at http://www.almeidadental.com/.

Almeida & Bell Aesthetic Dental Center provides more than just cosmetic dentistry or general dentistry. In addition to teeth whitening, dental bridges, sedation dentistry, and porcelain crowns there is hygiene education, teeth whitening and cleanings to be discussed. Sure, the cost of cosmetic dentistry, dental veneers, invisalign braces and dental bridges can all seem confusing. The key is to stay on top of the vital habits that you can control. We can help you make sense of the other stuff.

Regular checkups are vital for catching decay, infection or other troubles early so let us make an appointment for your next preventative visit and keep those hiccups from causing permanent damage. Call us at 720-306-8057  to schedule!

Missing Teeth? Don’t Miss Out On A Beautiful Smile

Lone Tree cosmetic dentistry

If you have missing spaces in your smile due to cavities, injury or any other reason, there is hope. If your existing teeth are stained, decayed, or broken, there is hope. If your teeth have always been misshapen, or crooked, there is hope. Cosmetic dentistry can fix all of those problems.

Almeida & Bell Aesthetic Dental Center has the expertise to handle the toughest cosmetic dental issues.

Regardless of the problem, it is usually preferable to retain your natural teeth. If this is not feasible, and you have already lost teeth, we offer numerous ways for you to maintain (or regain) your ability to eat, drink, speak, laugh, and smile with confidence.

Dental Veneers
If you still have your teeth, but are dissatisfied with them, these might be the best solution. Stunning porcelain veneers offer a relatively economical approach to cosmetic adjustments – uneven color, size, or shape. These are very thin shells bonded to the front of the teeth. They upgrade unsightly, but structurally sound teeth.

Dental Implant
A dental implant is a tooth replacement that consists of an artificial tooth PLUS an artificial root (usually biocompatible titanium). With local anesthesia, the artificial root is actually inserted into the jaw bone where it integrates with the bone tissue. There are three parts to a dental implant: the artificial root, the connecting abutment, and the final crown or denture.

A dental implant is often the most appropriate restoration as it offers beauty, strength, natural function, and protection from bone recession that often transpires at the site of a missing tooth.

Dentures
Most Lone Tree residents have heard of dentures: a plate holding artificial teeth that can be removed for cleaning. These are tailor-made and can contain varying numbers of teeth. Sometimes the entire set of upper and lower teeth have to be pulled and a denture created. Modern dentistry offers a myriad of custom dental implant-denture combinations to restore missing teeth.

There is no need to miss out on a gorgeous smile. Schedule your initial consultation at 720-306-8057 to visit us at 8683 E Lincoln Ave, Ste 200 in Lone Tree, Colorado. We are perfectly situated for our neighbors throughout the Lone Tree area.

Infancy Through Childhood: Instill Good Brushing Habits

infant dental exam Lone Tree

New Lone Tree parents may be surprised by the American Dental Association’s recommendations on infant oral care. Parents are advised to begin brushing their baby’s teeth as soon as the first teeth emerge. After all, brand-new teeth are just as vulnerable to cavities as older teeth.

Parents are encourage to use a cloth and a smidgen of toothpaste (about the size of a grain of rice) to wipe each tooth. As more teeth come in, it becomes more critical for the teeth to be brushed after each meal or, at least, twice a day.

It is critical to decide on the proper toothbrush, in order to make brushing time as pleasant as possible. A soft bristled brush is best with a small amount of toothpaste. Infant and toddler-sized toothbrushes with a small head of bristles are beneficial. Also, there are circle and triangular-shaped brushes that allow your toddler to walk around with their brush with less chance of injury in case of a fall.

If the toothpaste is causing an unpleasant struggle, brush without toothpaste. The goal is to remove food bits that will create bacteria followed by plaque and then cavities.

When two teeth touch, it’s time to floss. Flossing is vital to make sure no food is lodged between the teeth. Proper flossing requires fine motor skills which most kids don’t develop before age six or seven. Parents need to assist with flossing until they are sure their child can do it effectively.

Until the child is old enough to properly brush his or her teeth, they should receive adult supervision and guidance. Instilling the proper brushing and flossing practices will reap lifelong benefits. While it may seem that supervising them is time consuming, remember that it’s forming a daily habit that will guard their health. Also, dental expenses related to poor oral hygiene will be avoided.

Your child’s first dental visit should be within six months of the first tooth appearing and no later than their first birthday. It may seem early, but just as your Lone Tree pediatrician sees your baby regularly to make sure their physical health is on track and counsel you about your vital role, you can count on your dentist to look out for potential issues and counsel you about how to help your child keep a healthy smile.

Seek your dentist’s counsel regarding pacifiers and sippy cups, nighttime bottles, and x-ray safety. Dentists can counsel parents with older children about sealants, tooth protection for athletics, and orthodontics.

If you live in the Denver area and don’t yet have a trusted family dentist, call Almeida & Bell Aesthetic Dental Center at 720-306-8057 to schedule your child’s dental appointment with Dr. Dr. Almeida. By starting young, your child will become familiar with our Lone Tree dental practice and our friendly staff, ensuring that he or she never develops a fear of the dentist.

Be sure to check our website at http://www.almeidadental.com/ for more specifics about our services. We provide sedation dentistry, porcelain veneers, porcelain crowns, dental bridges and teeth whitening.

A Dentist’s Indispensable Tool

Highlands Ranch cosmetic dentistry

Providing quality dental care is much easier for Denver area dentists when they have extensive, comprehensive information about their patients’ oral health – and pictures are far more accurate than written notes. To go a step further: pictures that show what’s going on below the visible surface of your teeth and gums are worth even more than a thousand words. So, along with a thorough oral exam, most dentists want complete and up-to-date x-rays.

The frequency of x-rays is largely determined by your age as well as the state of your oral health. Because children are growing and they experience more changes to their teeth, they usually need x-rays more often.

X-rays also help dentists find cavities, evaluate gum health, and identify any major changes to your teeth and mouth.

Safety is an important issue that all dentists consider when ordering x-rays, because low levels of radiation are used to obtain the images. Many important precautions are taken to limit exposure, such as putting leaded aprons and collars on the patients.

It is critical that women in Lone Tree inform their dentist if they are pregnant because special considerations should be taken.

Tooth Replacement For The 21st Century

Highlands Ranch tooth implant supported dentures

Not everything was better back in the “good old days.” Take dentures, for instance. Dentures have been around for generations and have certainly improved the lives of thousands of Lone Tree people who have lost many or all of their teeth.

However, Grandpa’s traditional false teeth are not the prime tooth replacement. Traditional dentures can impede many critical oral functions: chewing, tasting, swallowing, talking, and smiling.

You may know denture wearers who have stopped attending social activities because they are embarrassed by dentures that are far from inconspicuous. Some have even stopped eating their favorite foods because their dentures diminish their capacity to taste and/or chew.

I have incredible news for Lone Tree residents with missing teeth: Dentures have evolved!

Implant-anchored or implant-supported dentures are far superior than conventional dentures for many patients. So much better, in fact, that there really should be another term for this revolutionary tooth replacement system – a term that doesn’t include the word “denture.” (If you can think of a good name, let us know.)

There are two types of implant anchored dentures; removable and permanent. No adhesive is required for either system. With the permanent type, screw retentions are anchored in the jaw to serve as attachment points for the denture. Permanent implant-supported dentures are very stable. Moreover, they are usually less pricey than replacing each missing tooth with an implant. (The cost varies depending on the number of implants necessary and other factors.)

Screw retentions require enough bone thickness to allow the implant to securely mesh with the existing bone. Unfortunately, some patients who have been missing teeth for a long period of time have experienced bone recession. For patients who lack the required amount of bone, mini-implants may be an alternative.

Removable implant anchored dentures have a locator attachment which allows the wearer to snap the appliance in place. Some patients prefer this type because they can remove them at night for cleaning. Countless Lone Tree patients who have traded in their traditional dentures report that their implant anchored dentures have greatly improved their life.

The wonderful benefits of implant-supported dentures include:

Increased comfort
Natural appearance
Normal tooth function
Improved durability
Better bone retention
Denture relines not
required
Minimal gum irritation
No denture adhesive needed
